Developers, elected officials and business people gathered last Tuesday under a balloon-filled tent to kick off Cross County Shopping Center”™s “Re-Launch Celebration Week” and review completed work on the $250 million redevelopment project.
Deputy Mayor Bill Regan called the Yonkers open-air retail venue, which opened in 1954, “a wonderful part of the city”™s fabric,” although he expressed some regret that his “wife and daughters are here all the time.”
“This project created hundreds of construction jobs with additional sales and income tax expanding the tax base to take some burden off of city residents.”
Since the project”™s inception in 2007, 32 additional stores have opened, representing some 155,288 square feet of new retail space.
Sean Cutt, assistant vice president of development for Macerich Co., Cross County property managers, deemed anchor Macy”™s and store H&M “top portfolio performers” in strengthening the center”™s retail clout.
County Executive Rob Astorino thanked Benenson Capital Partners L.L.C. and property owner Brooks Shopping Centers L.L.C. for “investing in this city and in our county.”
