A newly formed council of state business leaders will take a look at New York’s business climate.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday that he, along with Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, will appoint a seven-member Business Regulation Council to make recommendations on ways to decrease the cost of doing business in the state while maintaining protections in place for workers.
The council will study unemployment insurance, workers’ compensation, temporary disability insurance, energy, taxes and other business costs through a series of forums. The forums will gather opinions from business representatives, labor groups and other stakeholders.
The council is expected to make recommendations by June 3, before the end of the 2016 legislative session.
Here are the Business Regulation Council appointees:
Cuomo”™s appointees:
- Mario Cilento, president of the New York State AFL-CIO.
- Ted Potrikus, president and CEO of the Retail Council of New York State.
- Kathryn Wylde, president and CEO of the Partnership for New York City.
Flanagan”™s appointees:
- Heather Briccetti, president and CEO, The Business Council of New York State, Inc.
- Dean Norton, president, New York Farm Bureau.
Heastie”™s appointees:
- Gary LaBarbera, president, Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York.
- Robert Grey, chairman, New York Workers”™ Compensation Alliance.
