Roughly 125 New York CEOs made a plea before Congress Dec. 14 to aid the multibillion-dollar request for Hurricane Sandy disaster relief made by the the governors of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
While avoiding the fiscal cliff remains a top priority for Congress members, they’ve also been asked by President Barack Obama to approve a $60 billion disaster package to help the states rebuild their infrastructure.
In a letter signed by the executives, which includes the CEOs of Time Warner, NBC Universal, Bloomberg, Morgan Stanley and Madison Square Garden, the group argued that failure to fund the region’s recovery would “severely weaken” the states and “worsen our nation’s overall fiscal condition,” according to published reports.
Connecticut state officials have previously said they hope Congress will approve the spending bill before the end of the year. It took Congress two weeks to approve a $62 billion package for Hurricane Katrina, according to the New York Daily News.
