Amazon has engaged the global technology and advisory firm Keystone Strategy to prepare reports estimating the economic impact it has had on the U.S. in general and various states in particular. The report on New York state indicates that since 2010 Amazon has spent more than $65 billion in its New York operations, with $55 billion spent on creating company facilities in the state and on employee compensation. The report says that Amazon has more than 55,000 full- and part-time employees in New York state.
Amazon says it now has in New York state 12 regular fulfillment and sortation centers, 32 delivery stations, and four Prime Now fulfillment centers. The company says it has expanded its retail footprint with 33 Whole Foods Market locations, three Amazon Fresh stores, and two Amazon Go grocery stores across the state.

Amazon says that beyond having people on its payroll, it supports approximately 40,000 indirect jobs in New York in industries such as construction, logistics, and professional services.
In New York, Amazon partners with 20 educational institutions including SUNY and CUNY through its Career Choice program, which prepays tuition for employees pursuing further education.
Amazon says that it provides a powerful opportunity for New York’s entrepreneurs and small businesses to reach customers worldwide. In 2024, New York-based independent sellers sold more than 769 million items through Amazon, with the average independent seller generating approximately $565,000 in annual sales, the data from Keystone Strategy said.
“By providing infrastructure, logistics support, and access to millions of customers, Amazon enables New York’s small businesses to scale their operations and create additional jobs throughout the state,” the company said.
Amazon says that in New York it has so far donated $27 million to more than 100 local community organizations, delivered more than a million meals on behalf of food banks and nonprofits and reached more than 100,000 students and 3,000 teachers through its education programs.
Nationwide, Amazon says it has invested more than $1.8 trillion in the U.S. since 2010, including infrastructure and compensation to employees. It says it has one million full- and part-time employees in the U.S. and indirectly supports another one million jobs in other industries and two million jobs at companies that sell through Amazon facilities.
