Alexion Pharmaceuticals Inc. is the latest company to get expedited benefits under Connecticut”™s “First Five” program for corporations that pledge to add at least 200 jobs in-state.
The company will relocate its 350 employees to a planned headquarters in New Haven, with plans to add up to 300 more workers through 2017.
Alexion was founded in 1992 in New Haven”™s Science Park, and relocated to Cheshire in 2000.
“Their decision to grow here in our state is a major step forward in our larger strategy to establish Connecticut as a world-renowned life sciences hub,” said Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, in a prepared statement.
Alexion will be the anchor tenant at a 400,000-square-foot building at 100 College St. in New Haven, which is being built by Winstanley Enterprises at a cost of $100 million. The state is supporting the project with up to $51 million in assistance through Malloy”™s First Five program.
Earlier this year, Vernon-based TicketNetwork pulled out of the First Five program after its CEO was charged with making a disturbance. NBC Sports is building a new studio in Stamford with First Five funding, with ESPN and Cigna Corp. also drawing incentives under the program.
