United Technologies Corp. is acquiring LifePort Inc., a Woodland, Wash.-based company that makes air medical systems, armor, galley equipment and other interior furnishings for aircraft.
The company was founded in 1990 to develop better ways to transport medical patients in helicopters that were not specifically designed for the task.
UTC is attaching LifePort to Stratford-based Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. and its Sikorsky Aerospace Services unit in Shelton. The companies did not immediately disclose financial terms of the deal. LifePort had about $65 million in revenue in 2009.
In other news, Sikorsky is shutting down its commercial helicopter manufacturing operations outside Elmira, N.Y., and moving the work to its Schweizer Aircraft Corp. headquarters in Coatesville, Pa.
Schweizer produces small utility helicopters, and is developing an unmanned chopper for the U.S. Navy dubbed the Fire Scout.
About 400 workers are being affected by the move. Sikorsky is maintaining its military production operations at Elmira.
