Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. has sold seven helicopters to Bristow Group Inc., a United Kingdom company that shuttles personnel and materials to offshore drilling platforms.
Bristow Group owns Air Logistics, which provides service to oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska. The company is based in Surrey, England, and has its U.S. headquarters in New Iberia, La.
Sikorsky is based in Stratford and is a unit of Hartford-based United Technologies Corp.
For more than $100 million, Bristow Group is purchasing four Sikorsky S-92 helicopters and three S-76C models. The company already owns 53 of the latter helicopters and two of the former, as well as a dozen older S-61 choppers.
In separate news, Sikorsky Support Services Inc. established an aircraft delivery operations group in Trumbull to coordinate delivery of aircraft with freight-forwarding companies.
Sikorsky also formally opened its new Hawk Works helicopter completion facility at Elmira/Corning Regional Airport in upstate New York, which will employ 100 people. The plant is to serve as the primary completion center for all Black Hawk and Naval Hawk helicopters requiring custom fittings for specialized missions.
