In a possible $1 billion contract, the South Korean government wants to buy eight Seahawk helicopters built by Stratford-based Sikorsky Aircraft Corp.
The deal is subject to Congressional approval, with South Korea a key military ally. Separately, Sikorsky is refurbishing four Black Hawk helicopters for sale to Taiwan, in a contract valued at $43 million.
The South Korea helicopters would include 16 engines and two spares from Fairfield-based General Electric Co. and its GE Aviation operations in Lynn, Mass.; and other systems from a Lockheed Martin plant in Owego, N.Y.
