The New England administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration resigned after being called to active military duty.
Charles Summers, a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve, was recalled to serve with the U.S. Navy Strategic Communications Multi-National Force in the Iraq theatre.
Since 2005, Summers has overseen SBA”™s finance and marketing efforts in Connecticut and the other five New England states from the SBA”™s regional office in Boston. Previously, he was an aide to U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine.
Mark Hayward, district director for the SBA”™s Rhode Island office, will replace Summers on an acting basis until a permanent regional administrator is named.
