The New Rochelle Police Department is warning residents to be wary of telephone calls from an individual who says he is the city’s police commissioner.
“There is a telephone scam where someone is claiming to be Police Commissioner Robert Gazzola,” said the department on its Facebook page. “The caller will tell the call receiver that they are being investigated through a complaint made by the Department of Homeland Security. This is a scam. Hang up the phone.”
The department did not offer information on who might be orchestrating the scam calls, nor did it state what the caller might be demanding from the individuals who fall for the fraud.
