A Bridgeport man who created an online bank account in the name of a Rhode Island resident and then stole money from that resident has pleaded guilty in federal court to bank fraud.
Michael Joshua Saint-Victor used the identity of a Rhode Island resident to create an online bank account and then accessed and transferred $65,500 to that account from a separate bank account controlled by the Rhode Islander. He submitted an application for an ATM/debit card tied to the bank account that he opened with the stolen identity and later used the name of the Rhode Islander to apply for a credit card with another bank.
According to information presented to the court, when the banks discovered the fraudulent activities, the bank returned the $65,500 that Saint-Victor had transferred to his Rhode Island victim, and both the ATM/debit card and the credit card applications were denied.
The 26-year-old Saint-Victor pleaded guilty to a charge of bank fraud and is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 1.
