US Congressman Jim Himes, representing Connecticut’s District 4, issued a reminder that protections put in place to provide healthcare access during the pandemic have completed their “unwinding” process.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Medicaid Continuous Enrollment Provision prevented states from disenrolling individuals from Medicaid, even if they no longer qualified, to ensure adequate healthcare coverage during the public health emergency,” the Congressman’s release reads.
“This policy was terminated on March 31, 2023, beginning the year-long Medicaid “unwinding” process for states. This means your coverage may be at risk.” (Emphasis original.)
Medicaid, which provides affordable health insurance options for households with limited income. Roughly 77.9 million people are covered under Medicaid, including working professionals and even come business owners.
