June 18, the day before Juneteenth, will be CTPardonsDay, a new effort launched by a collaboration between several cannabis businesses from across the state including Fine Fettle, AYR Wellness, and Lady Jane CT.
The event, which will be held at community college campuses across the state including Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport will seek to help Connecticut residents with criminal records apply for pardons to clear their criminal records.
The event’s site notes that “A criminal record can hold you back for years, limiting opportunities for employment, housing, and education,” all of which can increase the recidivism rate.
To facilitate the applications for pardons and expunging of records, notarized documents are necessary. To that end, the CT Pardons Coalition is seeking notaries to volunteer their time on June 18 between 12 and 3pm. Locations will be set up at CT State Community Colleges state wide, including Capital, Asnuntuck, Housatonic, Gateway, Three Rivers, and Middlesex campuses.
