Leslie Madden, a one-time New York advertising professional who reinvented herself as a prominent Fairfield County interior designer and antiques dealer, passed away on July 24 at the age of 66. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
Born Leslie Bermingham in New York City, she attended St. Mary’s Girls High School in Greenwich and received a B.A. in psychology from Wheaton College in Massachusetts in 1974. She began her advertising career in 1975 as a media supervisor at Young & Rubicam and moved to Time magazine four years later to handle the publication”™s advertising sales. In 1987, she turned entrepreneur and opened Turner & Madden Ltd., an interior design and antiques business on Manhattan”™s Upper East Side.
In 2009, Madden opened Leslie Madden Designs Ltd. in New Canaan, where she resided since 1990. Her interior design business was focused on commercial and residential projects across New England. Her work was featured in numerous publications including The New York Times, Town and Country and House Beautiful. She also operated a booth at the Antiques and Artisan center in Stamford. At the time of her death, Madden was planning to relocate to Africa in order to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law, who reside in Zambia.
