The New York State Thruway Authority released three designs for the new Tappan Zee Bridge this afternoon in a conference call with Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
The proposals ranged from $3.1 billion to $4 billion, $1 billion below the projected $5.2 billion cost. Brian Coneybeare, special advisor to the project, said that the design review team is recommending the $3.1 billion option.
Coneybeare said there would be up to $800 million in additional costs to cover financing and management. It will take five years for the new bridge to be completed once construction begins.
The winning bid will be chosen Dec. 17.
