Connecticut has dedicated $1.5 million for a pair of youth projects in Stratford.
Funding will be used to build a new playground at Stratford Academy and make critical repairs to the Stratford School of Aviation Maintenance.
The town of Stratford will receive a $135,000 grant ”“ technically a “grant-in-aid” ”“ for the construction of a new playground at the Stratford Academy.
The Stratford School for Aviation Maintenance will receive $1,386,700. The money will allow for a roof replacement and mechanical upgrades. In addition to improving the school, the project will help create or retain approximately 24 construction-related jobs, according to the state.
Regional legislators Sen. Andres Ayala and Rep. Terry Backer joined Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in making the announcement recently.
“Stratford School for Aviation Maintenance provides area students with the option to pursue a career in a high-tech aeronautics field, which has a rich history in Stratford,” Backer said. “Improving the facility means the school will continue providing the workforce needed to keep us competitive.”
Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. is based in Stratford.
“Stratford”™s new playground will be a great way for children and families to enjoy the summer weather and stay active,” Ayala said. “Convenient access to outdoor recreation facilities like parks and this new playground is vital to the health and well-being of Connecticut”™s children. I am very happy we were all able to work together and make this happen.”
“I am pleased that the state of Connecticut is able to support infrastructure upgrades at the School of Aviation Maintenance and provide this recreational opportunity for Stratford children,” Malloy said. “These are critical steps in our effort to ensure that children live balanced and healthy lives and develop the skills they need to succeed in the 21st century.”
