The Stamford office of design and architecture firm Perkins Eastman announced the recent groundbreaking of Maplewood at Stony Hill, an 84-unit assisted living and memory-care community in Bethel owned by Westport-based Maplewood Senior Living, scheduled to open in fall 2014.
Upon completion it will be the first stand-alone assisted living facility in the state of Connecticut dedicated exclusively to memory care.
The facility is at 46 Stony Hill Road in Bethel, on a six-acre site where construction of the new three-story facility will soon commence.
Maplewood Senior Living”™s focus is upscale assisted living and memory care residences. Company facilities offer a broad range of services, amenities and care, including for Alzheimer”™s disease and dementia. Other Maplewood locations include Danbury, Newtown, Orange, East Norwalk and Darien.
In attendance at the groundbreaking were First Selectman Matthew Knickerbocker and state
Sen. Michael McLachlan, along with representatives from Maplewood Senior Living, the Bethel Chamber of Commerce, and The Alzheimer”™s Association: Connecticut Chapter. Perkins Eastman was represented by associate principal Alejandro Knopoff, the project”™s principal-in-charge, and by associate Meredith Taubin, project manager.
“This facility will set a new standard in the state of Connecticut when it comes to looking after the wellbeing of people with Alzheimer”™s disease and other forms of cognitive loss, and how to design for implementing that level of care,” said Knopoff.
Maplewood at Stony Hill will offer a mix of private, deluxe studio and one-bedroom apartments for residents living with early, mid-stage and late-stage Alzheimer”™s and dementia. Together Maplewood and Perkins Eastman will execute a “small house” design concept for the new building, comprising intimate neighborhoods each with its own services and amenities, including spas, gardens, terraces and porches with water views.
An on-site Alzheimer”™s and Dementia Education & Learning Center will offer information and support to those seeking to learn how to better care for their loved ones.
