Norwalk and Stamford are among six cities receiving grants under the state”™s Transit-Oriented Development Grant Program.
The program, which is administered by the Office of Policy and Management, provides funds for shovel-ready capital projects located within one-half mile of existing public transportation facilities. The program also promotes infrastructure development to enable walkable, mixed-use spaces.
Norwalk is receiving $2 million for the Pinnacle Transit-Orientated Development Infrastructure Project, and the funds will be used to repair sidewalks, manage stormwater, install crosswalks, underground utilities, and repave and stripe West Avenue, Merwin Street, Berkeley Street, Orchard Street, Butler Street and Quincy Street.
Stamford is receiving $563,212 for the Pacific Street Village Pedestrian Safety and Access Project, which will add a raised crosswalk and intersection, as well as several bump outs to slow traffic, increase pedestrian safety and expand sidewalk space. The funding will also be used for new street trees and bioswales for stormwater management and pedestrian-level lighting to improve safety at night.
The state is allocating a total of $6.8 million for this program”™s current funding round, which also includes two projects in Madison and one each in Ansonia, New Britain and Seymour.
