Mercy College will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its $32 million new residence hall and student commons on its Dobbs Ferry campus on Dec. 18 at 2 p.m., officials said Monday.
College officials said the name of the hall will be revealed at the ceremony.
The 100,000-square-foot, 4-story complex, expected to be open to students in January, will include a 5,000-square-foot fitness center, 35 single-bed rooms, 57 four-bed suites and 8 six-bed suites. The student commons will include a Starbucks cafe, a convenience store and student life offices as well as meeting and lounge spaces. An outdoor pedestrian quad and other exterior gathering areas were also built.
“The new residence hall will help increase student engagement on campus and build a sense of community,” Mercy College President Tim Hall said. “We are doing more to help our students succeed, and one of those things is providing places and opportunities for them to make connections with one another.”
Because the residence hall is a sustainable project, officials said the project qualified for New York State Energy Research and Development Authority financial incentives.
Construction on the project began in September 2014.
