Fred Mastroianni”™s Elemental Design Concepts is a work in progress. The 7,000-square-foot 197 E. Post Road, White Plains, location has wood planks barring the doorway and is locked by a metal chain, but inside, the space comes to life.
Model kitchens, plywood, tiles, the scent of sawdust, a future koi pond and boxes upon boxes litter the design center, set to open sometime this September. “It”™s truly going to be a high-end decorating and design company,” said Mastroianni, president of Elemental Design Concepts, interior designer and contractor.
“There will be a complete bathroom showroom within a showroom, kitchens, paint finishes and we”™ll even sell furniture,” he said. According to Mastroianni, the furniture will highlight sleek, contemporary Italian designs.
“We”™ll be utilizing NEFF for our kitchens,” he added. NEFF kitchen-design products are made by European craftsmen and are said by designers and architects to be among the best.
Elemental”™s president worked with Louis Cappelli for about a year and a half before his venture into Elemental”™s theme and look. “I was a purchaser liaison and handled clients before their closings,” he said in reference to his work with Cappelli in New Rochelle and White Plains.
Mastroianni is no stranger to business, having been the owner of various dry-cleaning businesses in the area, The Electric Beach Tanning Salon in Scarsdale and a mobile electronics business.
Elemental Design Concepts was born from an idea that just “gradually morphed” into its current conception, according to Mastroianni. “I wanted to do contracting with a friend and another friend is a decorative painter who wanted to show their paints in a store ”¦ so we thought, why not merge all these ideas into one business?”
As for his hopes for the future of Elemental, Mastroianni”™s face lit up. “A guy that did my floors was out in Dubai and they loved his work ”¦ so as far as branching out beyond the Westchester, Fairfield and Manhattan area where there is a far-reaching appeal for this type of business, we”™ll have to see.”
