Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sept. 19 announced a selection review team that will be responsible for vetting the three bids received for the construction of a new Tappan Zee Bridge and for making a final recommendation.
The team includes internationally renowned artists and architects, state officials, elected officials from Westchester and Rockland counties, and transportation experts.
The review team also includes technical advisors in the engineering, construction, environmental, financial, legal, management, operations, procurement, and design fields ”“ several of whom have been working with the New York State Thruway Authority and state Department of Transportation since before the development teams submitted their proposals in July.
The artists and experts who will review the designs include Jeffrey Koons, a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences; Richard Meier, a Pritzker Prize winning architect; Thomas P. Campbell, director of New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art; and Keith Brownlie, an internationally acclaimed bridge designer.
Cuomo said in a prepared statement that the assembly of a review team represents “another big step toward building a new bridge to replace the Tappan Zee.”
The Thruway Authority has previously stated a bid would be selected in mid October.
