Fairfield County builders filed relatively few permits for new homes in August, but remained on pace to double last year’s permit applications.
The Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development tracked just over 60 housing permits for Fairfield County in August, with Bridgeport the only municipality to see double digits. For the year, DECD reported about 1,050 permits locally, up from just over 500 through the first eight months of 2011.
Statewide, permits were up 41 percent through August compared to the same period a year ago. Despite the increase, construction employment was 6 percent lower as of August, according to preliminary Department of Labor estimates.
