Tappan Zee Constructors LLC began work on the new Tarrytown landing for the replacement bridge this week with the installation of girders and work above the Metro-North Hudson Line tracks.
This work is estimated to take about three months and will connect the Tarrytown shore pier with a pier in the Hudson River, the waterway the new Tappan Zee Bridge will span to connect Rockland and Westchester counties. A track system in Tarrytown will allow workers to push steel girder assembly pieces over the Metro-North tracks toward the river pier.
The Metro-North Hudson Line will shut down on three Friday nights during each month of work to transfer the assembly pieces over the railway. The first night of train disruption is Oct. 23. The November and December interruption dates have not been announced.
Across the river on the Nyack side, the super crane began lifting and placing girder assemblies this summer as piers were finalized.
In total, 31 miles of steel girders will be installed for both spans of the new bridge.
