Western Connecticut State University bestowed on Ray Boa its Macricostas Entrepreneur of the Year Award, recognizing his leadership of A&J Construction in Brookfield.
Boa built his paving business from the ground up over two decades, with A&J employing 50 people today. The son of Portuguese immigrants, he is a first-generation college graduate, having received his degree from WestConn in 1977.
“I try to be innovative and work harder in this economy,” Boa said in a statement released by WestConn.
Funding for the award is provided by the foundation of semiconductor manufacturing equipment maker Photronics Inc. founder and CEO Constantine Macricostas and his wife Marie.
