Town officials from Yorktown joined with Walgreens executives on Feb. 20 to mark the formal opening of a Walgreens store with a ribbon-cutting. The 19,000-square-foot store is at 3320 Crompond Road. The store’s soft opening took place earlier this month.
“Yorktown looks at our corporate partners as part of our team,” said Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman during a short ceremony. “They took a dirt pile that was weeds and construction debris and turned it into one of the best Walgreens I’ve seen. It’s amazing and we thank you for coming into our community.”

Walgreens retail stores are part of the publicly-traded company Walgreens Boots Alliance that has grown to be an integrated health care, pharmacy and retail company serving millions of customers and patients every day. It describes itself as “a trusted, global innovator in retail pharmacy with approximately 12,500 locations across the U.S., Europe and Latin America.” The company employs approximately 312,000 people and has a presence in eight countries through its portfolio of consumer brands: Walgreens, Boots, Duane Reade, the No7 Beauty Company and Benavides in Mexico.

According to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc., had sales in fiscal 2024 of $147.7 billion, an increase of 6.2% from the previous year. Operating loss in fiscal 2024 was $14.1 billion. In the first quarter of the company’s Fiscal Year 2025, which runs from September 2024 to August 2025, the U.S. retail pharmacy segment had sales of $30.9 billion, an increase of 6.6% from the year-ago quarter.
Pharmacy sales increased 10.4% n the first quarter. Total prescriptions filled in the quarter increased 1.5% to 316.3 million. Adjusted operating income decreased 36.4% to $441 million compared to $694 million in the year-ago quarter, driven primarily by lower retail sales.
“The Town of Yorktown is invested in your success,” Councilman Sergio Esposito told Walgreens officials. “We are so proud and fortunate to have you here.”
Walgreens is the latest national retailer to celebrate a grand opening in Yorktown. On Feb. 14, the value retailer Five Below celebrated its grand opening at the Yorktown Green Shopping Center.
