After announcing in March that 18 of its 44 stores nationwide would be closing in a restructuring of the business, the music retailer Sam Ash has announced that all of its retail locations in 16 states will be closed as of the end of July. Sam Ash has been a fixture on Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains since 1961 and also has operated a location in New Haven, Connecticut. Plans to close the New Haven store were revealed in March. Signage that a store-closing sale was underway was on display in the windows of the Mamaroneck Avenue store this weekend.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Sam Ash had retained an investment banking firm to help it explore possibilities for a sale or restructuring as an internet retailer.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce that effective May 2nd 2024, all Sam Ash Music Store locations will begin store closing sales,” the company said in an announcement on its website. “This unfortunate news also presents a fantastic opportunity for great deals across our premium selection of musical instruments & pro sound equipment. We will also be offering specials on samash.com during this time. Thank you for allowing us to serve musicians like you for 100 year.” The announcement was signed by The Ash Family.
In addition to the White Plains store, Sam Ash has been operating four other stores in New York. The company was founded in 1924. It is headquartered in Hicksville on Long Island.
