New York Republican Congressman George Santos was taken into federal custody this morning with the unsealing of an indictment charging him with 13 counts that include money laundering and wire fraud. He was due to appear before a federal judge in Central Islip on Long Island later today.
Santos also is charged with theft of public funds and making false statements to the House of Representatives. Questions regarding Santos’ handling of campaign funds had previously been raised. It also became apparent that Santos had not told the truth about his personal life, education, work experience and other matters while seeking office and serving in Congress.
