Westchester County Legislator Ben Boykin of White Plains has been appointed as the president of the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC). Boykin will serve for the remainder of 2024 and into 2025.
NYSAC serves as the united voice of the counties in New York state. The organization says that it is committed to educate, advocate, represent and serve constituents. It also identifies and addresses issues that impact the state’s counties.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer, a long-time colleague of Boykin, participated in a ceremony during which Boykin assumed the new post.
“I am so proud and honored to have spent the past 30 years working for the people of Westchester County and over 50 years of working for equality and social justice,” Boykin said. “For me, becoming president of this great association is really a crowning achievement in my career in public service.”
Boykin noted that NYSAC traces its roots back to 1925 when the New York State County Officers Association was formed.
“What we all do back home is critically important,” Boykin said. “Engaging our stakeholders, meeting them where they are, fostering an environment of growth and collaboration. That’s also what we do right here at NYSAC. We want to help you by enhancing productivity and ensuring transparency while we continue to serve our constituents. Over the next year, we know we will face new challenges – impending budget challenges and legislation that will test our home rule authority. And I am confident that if we stay united, we will overcome these challenges and any others that arise.”
Boykin was re-elected in November 2023 to his sixth term on the Westchester County Board of Legislators representing District 5, which includes most of White Plains, all of Scarsdale and West Harrison. Boykin was elected chairman of the Board of Legislators in January 2018 and January 2020. Boykin is a Phi Beta Kappa accounting graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his MBA with honors from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University.
