Connecticut”™s cannabis sector has seen the creation of its first labor union.
CTNewsJunkie.com reported 48 employees of Advanced Grow Labs in West Haven formed a union with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) Local 919. The union”™s organizers cited the pursuit of better pay and benefits and increased workplace protections as the goals of their union membership.
UFCW Local 919 President Mark A. Espinosa has encouraged employees at other cannabis companies within Connecticut to unionize ”“ the national UFCW has operated a Cannabis Workers Rising campaign to encourage union membership in this industry.
A spokesperson for Advanced Grow Labs said the company was looking forward to “working together with the UFCW Local 919 toward an inaugural collective bargaining agreement for our employees.”
