Governor Ned Lamont announced on the morning of May 1 that Connecticut is providing six businesses with $100,000 grants to incorporate new manufacturing technologies into their processes, including West-Conn Tool and Die, Inc of Shelton.
The focus of the Additive Manufacturing Adoption Program of the Manufacturing Innovation Fund from which the grant is primarily to speed the adoption of sintering technology which is commonly referred to as “3D metal printing.” The technology enables brand new manufacturing process and enables the mass production of items that would be difficult or even possible to make with traditional methods.
The grants were made available to businesses across the state engaged in manufacturing with fewer than 300 employees.
“Manufacturing continues to be a high-growth sector nationwide and we want to do everything we can to ensure that Connecticut is at the forefront of the jobs and economic growth that it is delivering,” Governor Lamont said in a press release. “This grant program is a way that we can partner with small manufacturers in our state to support their growth.”
“Programs like this are critical to helping Connecticut manufacturers remain at the forefront of innovation and stay one step ahead of the competition,” Connecticut’s Chief Manufacturing Officer, Paul Lavoie said. “Investing in our companies’ additive manufacturing capacity and know-how is just one of the ways we are strengthening Connecticut’s supply chain, both now and over the long-term.”
