Slow Food Metro North is relaunching its “Snail of Approval” program for businesses committed to ecologically, socially, and economically equitable practices after a Covid imposed hiatus.
The Metro North chapter covers both Fairfield and Westchester counties and is part of Slow Food USA, a national organization that seeks to “create a world where all people can eat food that is good for them, good for the people who grow it, and good for the planet.”
To build that future, they have launched the “Snail of Approval,” a recognition granted to businesses utilizing locally and ethically sourced food with an emphasis on ecologically sound practices and business strategies that promote equity and inclusion in the surrounding community.
According to the organization’s site, “The Snail of Approval award is given by local Slow Food chapters to food establishments based on evaluations in six areas: sourcing, environmental impact, cultural connection, community involvement, staff support, and business values.”
