Fairfield’s Sacred Heart University has announced the launch of its latest Doctor of Philosophy program, a 70-unit PhD program in Organizational Development and Change (ODC).
“ODC is a field of practice grounded in the behavioral, social and basic sciences that strategically engages human systems to transform organizations, revitalize communities, develop human potential, and increase system-wide capacity, effectiveness and well-being,” the announcement reads.
The hybrid program is designed for professionals who seek to advance their careers and provide the organizations they work for with valuable insight about how to achieve their goals for development and growth. It is intended to be completed in three years, with two years of course work and a year-long dissertation period.
Todd L. Matthews, associate professor in the sociology, criminology & criminal justice department and an instructor in the new Ph.D. program said that the program is intended for mid-level and senior executives but has applications for anybody seeking to strengthen organizations to which they belong.
Matthews emphasized the value of diverse students in the ODC program as well.
“The diversity of people in the program will really create a distinctive learning experience,” he said, noting that the program aligns with SHU’s mission to incorporate social justice and calls for educating students in mind, body and spirit to prepare them personally and professionally to make a difference in the global community.
