A report from CoworkingCafe, a listing service for coworking spaces and part of the Yardi commercial listings family, ranked metropolitan areas across the state on the basis of how many coworking spaces they have.

For large cities there were few surprises. New York City’s metropolitan area with 606 coworking spaces listed on the site ranked at number one. However, the study defined the metropolitan area as New York City itself, Newark, Jersey City, and portions of Pennsylvania and certain outlying cities like White Plains.
Fairfield County, which is considered part of the greater New York Metropolitan area by many studies and residents, was instead counted as a mid-size metropolitan area centered around Bridgeport and extending westward towards at least Norwalk. With 35 coworking spaces listed on CoworkingCafe, it places second behind Salt Lake City in Utah, which had 38 listings.
While Salt Lake City’s metropolitan area is larger and has a higher overall population, its population density of 1,797 people per square mile actually makes it a fair comparison to Fairfield County which has 1,532 people per square mile.
Among individual cities within the Bridgeport metro area as defined by CoworkingCafe Stamford leads the pack with nine while Westport offers seven. Norwalk has three listings while Fairfield has two. Connecticut as a whole has 72 coworking spaces listed.
