The first Chick-fil-A restaurant in the Town of Greenburgh opened today, Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Midway Shopping Center at 913B Central Park Ave., which has a Scarsdale mailing address. The outlet offers dine-in, carry-out, catering and delivery services. The store plans to operate from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. This follows the recent opening of a Chick-fil-A further down Central Avenue in Yonkers. An application has been filed seeking approvals to open another Chick-fil-A near the Westchester County Center on property that formerly housed a CVS.
Founded in 1967 by S. Truett Cathy as a family-owned business and headquartered in College Park, Georgia, Chick-fil-A Inc. is the third largest quick-service restaurant company in the United States, with more than 200,000 team members employed by independent owner-operators in more than 3,000 restaurants across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Last year, the company shared plans to expand into Europe and Asia by 2030.
Despite controversy in recent years over its opposition to same-sex marriage and attempts to boycott the company, it remains the U.S.’ favorite fast food chain with the highest per store sales of any such chain in the country.
The restaurant group has selected Joshua Riley as the owner-operator of Chick-fil-A Greenburgh. He is responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing approximately 100 full- and part-time team members, serving guests, cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses and tailoring philanthropic efforts to meet the community’s needs.
Riley started his Chick-fil-A career 15 years ago as a team member while attending Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. A decade after stepping into what he thought would be a temporary summer job, Riley grew with the business and eventually joined the Chick-fil-A Leadership Development Program, which gives future leaders the chance to learn alongside local owner-operators around the U.S. and Canada. During this experience, Riley spent several months on assignment in the tristate area and fell in love with New York. Now he has opened the doors to the Greenburgh franchise with wife of 10 years, Pangshua, and their two children, Jas and Sophia.
To celebrate the opening and in keeping with the restaurant group’s business model, Riley is recognizing 100 local heroes having an effect on Westchester County by gifting them free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.
Chick-fil-A Inc. has also donated $25,000 to Feeding America to support the hunger relief efforts of Feeding Westchester, a Feeding America partner food bank.
And Chick-fil-A Greenburgh will participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table program to donate surplus food to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need.
“I took a chance on Chick-fil-A when I was just a college student, and today I feel fortunate to open the first restaurant in Greenburgh,” Riley said. “After nearly 20 years with Chick-fil-A, it is such an honor to bring the beloved experience, including our signature menu items and warm hospitality, to this incredible community. I am so grateful that my family and I have been welcomed with such open arms, and we truly cannot wait to serve our neighbors here in Westchester County.”
