A new report reiterates Connecticut’s position in the insurance industry as a world leader.
The Connecticut insurance industry ranks No. 1 in the U.S. for written life insurance premiums and No. 2 for total direct written premiums, according to the report released Tuesday in Hartford. The analysis was produced by PricewaterhouseCoopers L.L.P. and the Connecticut Insurance and Financial Services Cluster.
About 110 domestic and 1,279 non-domestic entities work in insurance, representing 3 percent of the state’s workforce, 5.9 percent of the state’s payroll and 9 percent of the state’s gross product. The percentages are the highest of any state in the nation.
Connecticut also has the highest concentration of actuaries.
