A 46-year-old woman pleaded guilty to three felony charges after stealing more than $1.3 million from clients at a bank in the village of Ossining, the Westchester County District Attorney’s office announced on Monday.
Maria Rodriguez, of 88 Beverly Road in Mount Kisco, began stealing money in 2008 while she was a manager of an M&T Bank, according to the district attorney’s office.
Over several years, Rodriguez stole more than $1.3 million total from two M&T Bank clients, one of whom she has known for many years and the other a 92-year-old former Ossining police officer, the DA’s office reported. Rodriguez forged checks and made unauthorized withdrawals from the victims’ bank accounts.
Multiple subordinate colleagues reported Rodriguez’s suspicious activity to the bank’s whistle-blower hotline, which prompted an internal investigation by M&T Bank. The bank’s findings were then referred to the local police department and subsequently the district attorney’s office.
Rodriguez remains in jail with bail set at $200,000 and is scheduled to be sentenced May 20. She faces a maximum prison sentence of 25 years.
