Purchase-headquartered Mastercard (NYSE:MA) is expanding its presence in the digital currency realm by filing a trademark application for a series of cryptocurrency and blockchain-based tools.
According to combined media reports, the trademark application will enable the company to introduce downloadable application programming interface (API) software for cryptocurrency and blockchain transactions and to create links between virtual asset service providers for cryptocurrency transactions. The application was filed on June 12 under serial number 98038563 with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and consists of three international classes that refer to different identification categories for the goods and services being covered in the filing.
Mastercard did not make an official announcement of its trademark filing, which was reported yesterday on Twitter by prominent trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis.
