The push for commercial banking customers to shift to credit unions continues, fueled by the lingering reminders of the recession of 2008.
“Move Your Money,” a forum hosted by WESTPAC, a peace and justice action and educational network, will be held March 18 at the Mapleton Conference Center in White Plains. The goal of the forum is to inform area residents about the process of transferring one”™s bank account from a large commercial bank to a nonprofit credit union.
The forum was initiated by those who believe the larger banks that caused the 2008 economic crisis have resumed harmful practices, in an effort to gain huge profits.
WESTPAC said they continue to hear the concerns of citizens who wonder about their own financial security and the overall fiscal health of the nation. Because of that, they want to educate people about the option of moving their funds to smaller, local, nonprofit credit unions that offer many of the same services.
The forum will feature guests including J.A. Myerson, author of “Onward: An Occupier’s Guide to Understanding the Current Crisis,” and James Nottingham, vice president of marketing and communications for the NEA Federal Credit Union.
