Citigroup Inc. won federal approval to open a Citibank branch in downtown Bridgeport, where it does not currently have a branch.
As of June 30, Citibank had 15 branches in Fairfield County and $1.6 billion in deposits, 6.7 percent of all deposits in the county. That makes it the fifth-largest bank in terms of Fairfield County market share.
The New York City-based company plans to establish a branch at 939 Main St., about 400 feet from the main office of Bridgeport-based People”™s United Financial Inc.
At last report, People”™s United Bank owned nine of Bridgeport”™s 27 bank branches.
