Betsy Buttrill White, a prominent figure in banking, education and the nonprofit sector, passed away on Dec. 28 at her Rye Brook home at the age of 73.
Born March 21, 1950, in Kingsville, Texas, she received a Bachelor’s degree from Vassar College and a PhD in Economics from Stanford University. She worked for worked for 27 years at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, rising through the ranks to the position of senior vice president.
After her retirement in 2003, she began a new career as a professor of economics at Manhattanville College. She also served as a consultant for the Federal Reserve, the Central Bank of Iraq and Da Afghanistan Bank.
White was also active in the nonprofit sector, serving as a board member and the finance chairwoman for the American Association of People with Disabilities and as treasurer, vice president and a member of the board of trustees at the Jay Heritage Center in Rye.
