Sunday”™s stormy weather resulted in flooding that temporarily forced the closure of the departures terminal at Tweed New Haven Airport.
“HVN acts as a collection bowl for neighborhood flood waters,” said the airport on its Twitter page. “High tide needs to recede to open tide gates to drain water through waterways.”
Avelo Airlines, the commercial carrier based at Tweed, was forced to cancel seven departing flights due to the weather conditions.
This morning at around 8:00 a.m., Tweed New Haven Airport Authority Executive Director Tom Rafter took to social media to announce: “The airport is operating normally this morning. All flights are departing on time. A big shout out to the airport staff who went above and beyond yesterday and overnight. Yesterday was tough, but they were tougher.”
