Poland reportedly plans to spend $1 billion to purchase helicopters, with Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. a likely bidder.
Stratford-based Sikorsky has its international production in Poland, with rival AgustaWestland also maintaining a facility there.
It could be the first major new bid undertaken by Sikorsky under Mick Maurer, who will replace Jeff Pino as company president after Pino steps down this summer.
According to the trade publication Defense Update, Poland plans to purchase more than 25 helicopters, including three configured for combat search and rescue. Sikorsky is expected to offer a version of its international Black Hawk helicopter.
Eurocopter and NH Industries also may bid, according to Defense Update.
Sikorsky has not announced a major international sale since February, when it reached a deal with the United Kingdom”™s Bond Aviation Group for 16 of its large S-92 helicopters.
