Atlas Air Inc., a unit of Purchase-based Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings Inc., announced Sept. 4 it was awarded a contract by the U.S. Air Force to continue to provide training services to the aircrews of Air Force One.
Atlas Air, a global provider of outsourced aircraft and aviation operating services, will provide the crews of the president”™s modified Boeing 747-200s with ground and flight-simulator training at its Miami, Fla., training center under a five-year, fixed-price contract.
The Purchase company has been providing the latter training services to the Air Force since October 2007.
The Air Force owns two Boeing VC-25As, which are specifically configured and highly modified versions of the Boeing 747-200B series aircraft and which bear the call sign “Air Force One” when the president is on board.
“We are extremely honored to have been selected to provide training for the pilots and crews of Air Force One and the Presidential Airlift Group,” said Atlas Air Worldwide CEO and President William J. Flynn, in a prepared statement.
