New York Stewart International Airport will be hosting a new foreign carrier as Atlantic Airways plans to begin flights to and from the Faroe Islands.
According to a report in SimpleFlying.com, Atlantic Airways is the flag carrier of the Faroe Islands, a semi-autonomous region of Denmark. The carrier will begin a limited seasonal service in August with a weekly link between Stewart and Vágar, the only airport on the Faroe Islands; the flights will take approximately six hours.
The airline had long planned a New York metro area connection and was reportedly focused on Newark Liberty International Airport, but opted to use Stewart because of its lower operating costs. The only other international airport currently using Stewart is the Icelandic airline Play.
