Following his aerospace trade mission in Toulouse, France earlier this year, Sen. Richard Blumenthal co-hosted a day-long conference in Hartford Monday to promote business between Airbus and Connecticut’s manufacturers.
Based in France, Airbus is a leading aircraft manufacturer with growing ties to Connecticut. At the conference, Airbus procurement officials interviewed companies for potential contracts and the opportunity to become suppliers for the company.
In 2012, Airbus spent nearly $5 billion in Connecticut and has spent more than $20 billion in the last five years, according to a Blumenthal release.
“Today”™s conference is an excellent example of what can be achieved when government and the private sector work together to create new and exciting opportunities for Connecticut”™s top-of-the-line aerospace manufacturers,” Blumenthal said in a statement. “I thank Airbus and the Connecticut District Export Council for helping to organize this event ”“ and hopefully events similar to today”™s in the future ”“ that will surely bring about well-paying, high-tech jobs for the state”™s already thriving aerospace industry.”
The industry employs about 40,000 people in the state.
