Your boss will understand. Well, maybe.
Jurgen Klinsmann, head coach of the USA soccer team, posted a permission slip to his Twitter feed for those employees looking to be excused for the “important cause” of watching Thursday”™s USA-Germany World Cup match.
The match is the final game of the group stage and its result could determine whether the USA advances to the knockout stage of the tournament or goes home in defeat. The match, which takes place at noon, comes after the USA team”™s Sunday match against Portugal set the record as the most-watched soccer game in the country”™s history, with an average of 28 million viewers watching on ESPN and Univision.
This year”™s World Cup takes place in Brazil, and group stage matches have often taken place during the work hours on weekdays, to the potential chagrin of some employers who might decry a loss of productivity. Klinsmann, in his permission slip, had some advice for those employers.
“By the way, you should act like a good leader and take the day off as well,” he said.
Klinsmann, who played for and later coached Germany’s international team, has been USA coach since 2011.
