Danbury Fair Mall has removed all the bandages on the first renovation in the shopping center”™s 20-year history. The project has incorporated a completely redesigned interior, improved amenities and enhanced services for shoppers.
The 1.3 million-square-foot mall”™s new look features wood trim and earth-tone paint, stone-styled floors, and elaborate lighting fixtures. Also emphasized in the renovation are the new Food Court and Center Court, both of which were redesigned and rebuilt. Small carpeted areas scattered throughout the mall with couches and tables are designed as meeting and respite spaces.
“This is the start of a new chapter in Danbury Fair”™s history,” said Maura Ruby, senior property manager. “This site has always had a special place in the community, first as the home of the historic state fair and now as the home of Danbury Fair. We are very proud of the new Danbury Fair and we are excited to be able to share it with the community.”
Throughout the yearlong renovation, 15 new retailers have opened at Danbury Fair. Capitalizing on the new storefronts, 24 existing retailers expanded and redesigned their existing locations.
Construction began February 2007, with the vast majority of the work taking place at night. The project took more than 93,000 hours of on-site construction.
The mall celebrated its new look with four days of festivities that began Feb. 28 and carried through March 2. The celebration included a special fashion show benefiting the American Cancer Society.
“Danbury Fair is an important part of the city of Danbury, a place where the community gathers,” said Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton. “The center”™s renovation is an important and exciting milestone for this community, and we are extremely pleased with the result.”
