The Yonkers Film Festival, aka YoFi Fest, is set to kick off Oct. 11 with an opening-night reception in the atrium at the Riverfront Library in Larkin Plaza.
The tone-setting slogan of the inaugural three-day event is “Where audiences and filmmakers get to talk (just not during the movies).”
The lineup is filled with back-to-back screenings of full-length features, documentaries, shorts, music videos, animation and student works.
The featured works were culled from worldwide submissions, with the final program spotlighting not only American film but works from countries that included France, Mexico, Norway, Sweden, Israel, Australia, Italy, the United Kingdom and Canada.
The expansive format will include children”™s events and workshops on the film business, led by industry professionals. The festival, a showcase of emerging talent, will include partnerships with numerous local businesses and organizations including the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville and the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Yonkers.
A popular feature, as at most film festivals, is expected to be the “meet the filmmaker” events, which include a screening and discussion with directors, producers, cast or crew members.
The surrounding community will also get into the weekend”™s act, with festival tickets earning participants discounts and special deals at a number of area restaurants, some of which are hosting related events.
