The Mount Pleasant Planning Board recently approved plans to close and demolish the existing All Westchester Saw Mill Multiplex Cinemas movie theater in Hawthorne and replace it with an Audi car dealership, according to planning board representative Carolyn Saracino.
In its Oct. 19 meeting, the planning board approved site plans to replace the ten-screen theater with a more than 67,000-square-foot Audi dealership, car wash and service center. Saracino said the plans, which are still in the resolution process, will move next to the town’s building department. She estimated early next year as a possible date for full approval.
A closing date for the theater was not given.
The theater, located at 151 Saw Mill River Road in Hawthorne, is owned and operated by National Amusements, Inc., the Norwood, Massachusetts-based chain that operates more than 900 theaters in the U.S. and Europe under the Multiplex Cinemas, Cinema de Lux, Showcase Cinemas and Showcase SuperLux banners. It is the parent company of Viacom, Inc. and CBS Corp.
The Greenburgh Multiplex Cinemas, also a National Amusements theater, is less than four miles south on Saw Mill River Road in Elmsford.
An application to demolish was submitted by National Amusements as 151 Saw Mill River Road LLC at the planning board’s Aug. 17 meeting. Armonk-based John Meyer Consulting, PC will serve as the project engineer.
Audi currently operates dealerships in Eastchester, Nyack and Greenwich.
