County Executive Robert P. Astorino may have made picked Sustainable Playland to take over county-owned Rye Playland, but Westchester County legislators still want to hear more.
The legislators will host a public information session Feb. 13 in the Little Theater at the Westchester County Center to consider four proposals, including Sustainable Playland, to revitalize and run the amusement park that has become a drain on county finances.
In October, Astorino signed a 10-year lease with Sustainable Playland, a nonprofit run by Rye resident Dhruv Narain. Sustainable Playland would invest $34 million, and add a restaurant, lawn, water park, and recreational facility to allow Playland to be open year-round.
Sustainable Playland would make an initial payment of $4 million, and yearly payments of at least $1.2 million to alleviate the county”™s Playland debt.
County legislators claim that they must approve any lease longer than five years, and are also weighing proposals from Standard Amusements, Central Amusements and the Paidia Company. The proceedings will be moderated by Legislator Catherine Borgia.
